Dream Ghost
Cahaba, Alabama
July, 1853
by Anne Chancey Dalton
Illustrated by Dave Edwards

Daniel Seer – Private Eye
Daniel wants to use logic, persistence, and determination
to solve a case-just like the private eye, Allan Pinkerton.

A Ghost, Two Men, and a Trunk
Daniel’s dreams sometimes come true.
But will this one help him solve a crime?

Spooky Mystery
Some folks in Cahaba say a ball of light has stalked them.
Did it really happen, or did slave owners make up the story to
prevent runaways?  If the ball of light is real, is it dangerous?

Underground Railroad
Daniel is scared when he learns his father has been asked to
work on the Underground Railroad. Mr. Pinkerton works on
it in spite of dangers. But Daniel doesn’t want his father
caught like two "agents" in western Alabama.

Into the future…Freedom!
After the Civil War, Daniel’s formerly enslaved friends,
Jordan and George Hatcher, become leaders among
the freedmen during Reconstruction.
